July/August Beans for Bags Spotlight: Hospice Foundation for Jefferson Healthcare

The Hospice Foundation for Jefferson Healthcare is honored to be a recipient of the Food Co-op’s Beans for Bags program.  On behalf of friends and neighbors who are nearing the end of their life’s journey, thank you for your compassion and support.

The Hospice Foundation’s mission is to provide financial support for Jefferson Healthcare’s hospice program. Through donations from our caring community, the Foundation is able to fund an array of the hospice program’s enhanced services that would not otherwise be available to terminally ill patients and their families in Jefferson County.

These services include:

  • Comfort therapies such as massage, hair and nail care

  • Essential homecare supplies that are not covered by insurance

  • Volunteer specialists who provide patients with calming therapies such as music, reiki, dog and equine visits, gardening assistance, companionship and much more

  • Brief periods of respite for caregivers

  • Grief counseling and support groups for hospice families

  • An annual memorial service for hospice families

The Foundation also funds:

  • Support groups for families and caregivers whose loved ones who did not receive care from Jefferson Healthcare’s hospice program;

  • Educational and professional support for hospice clinicians

About Jefferson Healthcare’s hospice program

Hospice care is not a place – it’s a comprehensive service provided to terminally ill people wherever they call “home,” be it an RV, boat, nursing facility, memory care, assisted living or the house they’ve lived in for many years.  Whenever a person is no longer receiving curative treatment, hospice is there to provide care and help them enjoy the best quality of life through any life-limiting illness.  Hospice services are comforting and compassionate, tailored to fit a person’s and family’s unique situation.

Last year alone, hospice provided end-of-life care to nearly 200 people in our community as well as family support services to their caregivers and families. Currently there are nearly 40 volunteers who give their time and expertise to hospice patients and families. Interested in volunteering please visit: https://hospicefoundationjhc.org/contact/

Quotes from patient family members:

“When it was time to bid Fred that final earthly good-bye, it was ever so much easier knowing that not only were his last months of life made easier, but ever so much richer with us having been the recipients of hospice care.” JS

“Whenever the music therapist came to our home, Chris was transported to a place of peace and serenity. The confusion and agitation of Alzheimer’s were replaced by a deep connection with the beautiful sounds from the instrument and calming presence of the musician. It was a magical gift for both of us.”  SB
